“When I was spending time with the old people I felt like I was doing a really good deed and they made me feel happy about myself… I felt like I gained an understanding of old people and like I really helped make them happy”. Carla, 10
What an incredible morning we had at Scones for Good with feet tapping and arms swinging, eating scones and dancing zumba in our chairs. A bunch of warm, generous 9 – 12 year olds shared their time with our very ‘young at heart’ guests, serving scones topped with delicious SuperJam and chatting. It didn’t take long for strangers to become new friends. Kids – you were all incredible!
Guitarist Nadia Nauss kept the vibe flowing with her beautiful playing and singing, and zumba queen Siobhan Ferguson had us all Zumba-ing in our chairs, reminding us that no-one is ever too old to dance. The energy at the Gaden Centre was positively electric.
The morning closed with words of thanks offered by various participants including Ian, accompanying his mum, Club Holdsworth member, Barbara: “We have so much to learn from each other, whether we’re young or old” – Listen to Ian share 10-year old volunteer Isaac’s insights, as well as his own https://youtu.be/nTzxcVhdJ8s
Our thanks to Woollahra Council and Community Creators for grants that enabled us to offer this program to Club Holdsworth and other participants, and to the Gaden Centre for the scrumptious scones and use of their beautiful new facility. Apart from being a community centre under the Holdsworth Community umbrella, Gaden is also a fantastic cafe in its own right. Chef Matthew turns out delicious breakfast and lunches, and Kids Giving Back has now made The Gaden Centre our ‘cafe of choice’ for meetings. Check it out httpss://www.facebook.com/Holdsworth.Gaden and show your support by meeting your friends here and spreading the word.
Thanks to SuperJam for once again generously providing their lip licking fruit filled jam. When your kids tell you they can’t wait another day to get some SuperJam, head here for your nearest stockist https://www.goodness.com.au/
If you run seniors programs or an aged care facility and you’d like your clients and residents to enjoy a Scones for Good Super Jam tea party with some bubbly, caring 9 – 12 year olds, please contact us, email@example.com
Yours in Scones, SuperJam and Zumba
