Cook for Good brought nourishment all round – food and books for the homeless, as well as sage yet humorous advice on the mum/daughter balancing act. Sunday was an action packed day of food, books and loving energy, with mums and daughters cooking up and delivering 540 delicious meals of risotto, salmon pasta, soup and bubkas, as well as donating several hundred books to our Footpath Library Book Drive and being inspired by our guest speakers Bernie Bolger (psychologist) and Barbara McKellar (Footpath Library). Barbara discussed the Library’s amazing work, collecting and delivering books for members of our homeless community. Bernie offered her uplifting and humorous insights on positive communication between the generations, as she lead us through a hands-on appreciation exercise.

IMG_0556We are also very grateful to our superb film crew Nina and Luke for weaving their way between the bubkes and salmon to film all the kitchen action, and to Wild Fury for their generous loan of cameras and sound equipment.

IMG_0582Mums and daughters delivered meals to homeless shelters and services, as well as to individuals in need. Amanda, a case manager at The Benevolent Society, shared feedback from some of their very appreciative clients:

Husband and wife Yousef and Sedigheh loved their food, and their daughter said that it was a good help for her as she didn’t have to cook for them. The food was delicious and plentiful.

IMG_0549Merryl thought the food was delicious and tasty, she had never had salmon before and she loved it, she kept saying thank you for the service. Merryl lives in a house in need of repair and she has limited access to fresh food or a clean, functioning kitchen, therefore she really appreciated these meals.

Troy was very grateful for the meals. He received food for himself and his mum. The food was the best food he’d had in a long time. He would love to benefit once again from future Cook for Good programs. He also said that he got lots of food and there was enough to have left overs the next day.

Sheila enjoyed the food very much. It was fresh and enjoyable and the people who dropped it off were so pleasant. She couldn’t stop saying thank you.

Gary phoned to say thank you. He said it was really nice food and the girls who delivered it were lovely.

Norma loved her food. She has never had risotto and said it was amazing and that she loved me for organising it. She said there was so much food she saved some for later in the day.IMG_0430
