Students examine how social connection, relationships, belonging and community participation can influence wellbeing. They consider the wellbeing of both older Australians and young people and reflect on how volunteering and helping others can contribute positively to individual and community wellbeing.

How this is addressed in Scones & Stories:
This outcome can be supported through the program’s oral-history component, particularly where students use residents’ stories and recollections as sources. Students can ask questions about childhood, schooling, family and community life and consider how Australian society and everyday life have changed over time.
Students apply interpersonal skills in a real-world context: initiating conversations, listening actively, showing empathy, responding appropriately, cooperating with others and adapting their communication when interacting with aged-care residents.
