Relevant to Scones & Stories:

They consider the wellbeing of both older Australians and young people and reflect on how volunteering and helping others can contribute positively to individual and community wellbeing.

Outcome: HS3-HIS-01: Examines and describes the development of Australian colonies and Australia as a nation, using sources as evidence.

Students:

  • use a range of sources to investigate experiences of people in Australia’s past
  • recognise that people’s experiences and perspectives can differ

How this is addressed in Scones & Stories:

This outcome can be supported through the program’s oral-history component, particularly where students use residents’ stories and recollections as sources. Students can ask questions about childhood, schooling, family and community life and consider how Australian society and everyday life have changed over time.

Outcome:PH3-SMI-01: Evaluates and applies self-management and interpersonal skills in a range of contexts.

Students apply interpersonal skills in a real-world context: initiating conversations, listening actively, showing empathy, responding appropriately, cooperating with others and adapting their communication when interacting with aged-care residents.
